New Level for Merged Groups

Merging Unit Groups presents an interesting dilemma with regards to allowing groups of differing levels to merge, since if we were to allow it how do we control abuse of the system? In answer to this I made the following system:

As we are merging groups together we tally up the level points (for all the groups that will be put into a single big group), then we divide the total level points by total unit count.

Level points = Level of the unit group * Count of units in the group

For example:

   Group 1 (Level 10 Macemen) - 500 units
   Group 2 (Level 3 Macemen) - 50,000 units
   Group 3 (Level 1 Macemen) - 100,000 units

Let's say we wanted to merge all these guys together, here is what we end up with:

            Level Points
   Group 1 5,000
   Group 2 150,000
   Group 3 100,000
   Total 255,000

So we take the total Level Points and divide it by the total count of units in the newly formed big group:

255,000 / 150,500 = 1.7 which is then floored (to avoid abuses of any kind) to 1. Making the level of the newly formed group Level 1. Also note that the experience counter resets to zero on any merge or split operations.

Similarly, were we to consider the following:

   Group 1 (Level 10 Macemen) - 100,000 units
   Group 2 (Level 1 Macemen) - 10,000 units
   1,000,000 + 10,000 = 1,010,000 / 110,000 = 9.2 which is floored to 9. So the final merged group would be level 9.

Therefore, by merging you COULD gain levels for your units, mixing experience with inexperience can be beneficial!

It is useful to know how this works for times when you need to refill a highly experienced group, or bring some rookies up a few levels!

How Does Merging Affect Modifiers?

If you have any TARGETED modifiers affecting your unit group (for example, you blessed a unit group), then you will be unable to do anything with that unit group until the effect of the modifier wears off. This means, no merging or splitting. Therefore, the long and short answer is that merging CAN'T affect modifiers.

It is important to note the difference between Targeted Modifiers and General Modifiers.
